Is it time for a new computer? How to tell when your computer finally bites the dust.

How will my computer tell me that it’s about to exit this realm?

Your computer has many telltale signs of impending catastrophe built in. Before you do anything else after reading this article, please take the precaution of backing up all of your data. Trust me when I tell you that recovering your photos and documents can be a nightmare or even impossible depending on the level of failure of your device. The trick is to recognize the signs of impending disaster and take action before it’s too late.

  1. Your computer is beeping like crazy everytime it boots up.

An audible warning is the best one to get. The reason is that these cannot be mistaken for another symptom. The beep sequence is very specific. For example, you may get 1 short beep and 2 long beeps. Or one high pitched continuous beep. At that point, you are going to need to refer to your computer manufacturer’s beep code sheet to decipher what is actually wrong.

  1.   Your computer is slow booting or loading files.

This can be a little tricky. Many things can explain this like malware dragging down performance or memory card can be fried. It can also be a sign that your hard drive is about to give up. Run a program called CrystalDiskInfo and check the S.M.A.R.T  (self- monitoring, analysis and reporting technology) status and your hard drive will tell you itself what the prognosis is.

3 There is a burning smell when it boots up.

Yikes! This can be a sign of problems with the motherboard. Of all the nightmare problems, motherboard issues are the hardest to determine because every hardware device connected must be checked and ruled out. This really bites because there are no other clues given. There is no beep code for the motherboard itself. There is no blue screen. It’s just dead or alive.
